A judge decided against the suspension of the order keeping Vicente Carrillo Leyva, "El Vicentillo," in prison.
Carrillo Leyva had requested his release under the argument that the New System of Criminal Justice does not consider money laundering, the reason behind his stay in prison, as a serious crime anymore.
The judge decided that the System cannot be invoked regarding cases taken to the juries before the constitutional reform undertaken in 2008.
"El Vicentillo" was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for the crime of money laundering for US$105,279 from 1998 to 2009.
