Observers from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) arrived in Nochixtlán, Oaxaca, to gather information and testimony on the violent clash between dissident teachers and Federal Police, which left eight dead and over 100 injured.
The group of five U.N. observers arrived in Nochixtlán on Monday afternoon.
"I regret the loss of life and the harm done to the injured people. I express my condolences to the families who lost a loved one," said in a statement Jan Jarab, representative in Mexico of the OHCHR.
“We call on the involved parties to stop the violence and start a dialogue to prevent regrettable situations such as occurred,” he added.
