Two elderly women died and at least then more people were injured after they were run over by a vehicle during a protest against insecurity in the area of Ciudad Satélite.
The unidentified driver was arrested after the incident.
According to local reports, at 9:10 a.m. some 250 members of the Independent Association for the Defense of National Rights were protesting at the esplanade of the sculptural space known as the Towers of Satélite.
While members of the group were crossing the highway towards the esplanade they were run over by a small car.
The inhabitants of the area have been using the esplanade to protest from time to time, and sometimes they have the support of the transit authorities due to the danger that represents walking over the busy road to reach the place.
The victims were identified as 69-year-old Gloria Rivera Martínez and 74-year-old Teresa Bravo Barragán.
