Mexican boxer Francisco 'Bandido' Vargas, super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), tested positive for clenbuterol, after a voluntary testing program that was requested ahead of his fight on June 4.
"Vargas believes that he tested positive due to ingestion of meat in Mexico, where ranchers feed clenbuterol to livestock to help increase meat yields. The Associated Press reported this week that coaches should keep a special watch on meat supplied to athletes ahead of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic games.
Francisco [Vargas] has always been a clean fighter, and for that reason he underwent the voluntary testing program ahead of his fight.

He will leave Mexico to complete his training in the United States in order to avoid any similar situation and will cooperate fully with the Athletic Commission of the State of California to undergo all the tests required for his fight on June 4." The WBC said in a statement.
