he Special Attorney against Corruption of Spain will not appeal against the release of the former governor of the Mexican state of Coahuila, Humberto Moreira, and the former national leader of the Revolutionary Institutional Party will be able to get his passport back next week.
Judiciary sources pointed out that, nevertheless, Moreira is still under investigation in Spain, and will have to declare before judge Santiago Pedras whenever he is required to do so.
Forty-nine-year-old Moreira was arrested on January 15 under charges of conspiracy and money laundering and was sent to the prison of Soto del Real, in Madrid.
According to documents to which EL UNIVERSAL had access, Moreira transferred around 200,000 Euros to three different accounts under his name in Spain, which according to the Spanish authorities could have been used for money laundering.
His lawyer, Manuel Olle, presented documents demonstrating that the money came from three companies on which Moreira is a majority stakeholder.
