Public audiences about marijuana start today

Mexico's Chamber of Deputies began a series of public hearings on marijuana legalization after the Supreme Court authorized four citizens to grow, carry and use cannabis for recreational purposes last year.

According to the program, the public hearings will focus on the regulation for self-production and consumption, human rights, the international context, the relation with the anti-crime policy, the prison system and public safety, as well as the medicinal use and commercialization of cannabis and public health.

The meetings will be held until Wednesday at the Chamber of Deputies, while the sessions at the Senate start on February 2 and will last three days.

The discussion will return to the Chamber of Deputies on February 9 for two additional days of sessions and on February 16 to the Senate for two more days of discussion.
