A vehicle lost control due to the freezing conditions on the road between the states of Sonora and Chihuahua and overturned, ending in the opposite direction of the highway and causing the crash between another truck and a trailer.
One person was killed in the 9:30 incident, and another eight were injured, two of them severely, according to official reports.
The overturned truck, a Tahoe with Arizona plates, was transporting most of the victims of the incident, identified only as Javier, who lost his life, as well as a woman identified as Bibiana and minors identified as 12-year-old Rubén, 11-year-old Manuel, eight-year-old Natalia, five-year-old Javier and Adriana, a one-year and ten-month-old toddler.
The driver of the incoming trailer stopped to try to rescue the wounded, but another truck crashed in the back of his vehicle, leaving the couple on board in serious condition.
Emergency services arrived at the area to aid the victims and Agua Prieta's Mayor Héctor David Ruvalcaba Gastelum called for extreme caution while taking on the road.
