Mexican Emmanuel Lubezki won the award for Best Cinematography for his work on "The Revenant," the new movie by director Alejandro González Iñárritu, in the XXI edition of Critics' Choice Awards.
Through its Twitter account, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) congratulated Lubezki on his prize.
"Congratulations to Mexican Emmanuel Lubezki by their prize #CriticsChoice To best photograph by #TheRevenant," wrote the institute.
"The Revenant" was nominated on nine categories, but lost the award for best film before "Spotlight" and the award for Best Director to George Miller, for his work on "Mad Max: Fury road".
Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for Best Actor for his performance as explorer Hugh Glass, who after being attacked by a bear and being left for dead, hunts the members of his party and leaves them to their fate.
The award ceremony took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
The awards are given by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), which is regarded as the largest organization of film critics of the United States and Canada.
