Police: Officer, another person hurt in Wisconsin shooting

A shooting at a downtown motorcycle shop in an east-central Wisconsin town ended Saturday with a police officer and another person injured and at least one person in custody, authorities said.

Shots were reported at Eagle Nation Cycles on Neenah's Main Street shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday, WITI-TV reported.

Police responded to what they called a "high-risk incident," and nearby homes and businesses were evacuated. By early afternoon, Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson said authorities believed everyone was accounted for and there was "no threat to the community."

"I can tell the citizens now that the scene has been made safe," Wilkinson said during a press briefing shortly after someone was taken into custody, WBAY-TV reported.

The injured officer was treated and released from Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, hospital spokeswoman Megan Mulholland said.

Another person was taken to the hospital but that person's condition was unknown, Mulholland said.

Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert estimated 30 shots were fired at the motorcycle shop, Post-Crescent Media reported

"It's every community's nightmare," Kaufert said.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is sending agents from Milwaukee to help assist local police with the shooting investigation, WBAY reported.

"We are aware of the situation," said Martin Siebenaler, an acting public information officer with the ATF in St. Paul, Minnesota. Local police are taking the lead on the investigation, but federal agents will assist with tracing the firearm, Siebenaler said.

The Winnebago County SWAT team, the Wisconsin State Patrol and officers from neighboring agencies also were on the scene. Officers were carrying rifles.

Neenah is about 85 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
