Macroeconomic conditions in the country are ripe to raise the minimum wage to 86.33 pesos (US$5) per day by February or March next year, Mexico City mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera said in a radio interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva.
He added that the proposal is supported by 18 states of the country.
The Secretaries of Economic Development, Salomón Chertorivski; Finance, Édgar Amador, and Labor, Amalia García, of Mexico City government met with the head of the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami), Basilio González.
Chertorivski explained that economic, technical and legal arguments were presented during the meeting to increase the minimum wage by 16.3 pesos (US$95 cents).
The proposal to raise the minimum wage was made by Mancera in 2014 based on Article 123 of Mexico's Constitution, that states that wages should be enough to cover food, health, education and culture.
