Justin Trudeau, Canada's Prime Minister, urged Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion to work on several "priority" issues, including removing the visa requirement for Mexicans, established in 2009.
Trudeau, who won a majority government on October 19, seeks to "strengthen trilateral cooperation with the United States and Mexico".
When Canada presented its federal budget for fiscal year 2015-2016, the government announced that starting on the first quarter of 2016 Mexicans who have had a Canadian visa for the past 10 years or who have a valid U.S. visa will be exempt from obtaining a new visa to travel to Canada.
