Pope Francis will travel to Mexico City in 2016, Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi confirmed without specifying the date.
Lombardi said that the Argentinian pontiff will visit the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world.
Pope Francis has spoken of his desire to visit Mexico before, indicating that he would like to spend a full week here.
