Alejandro Gómez Sánchez, Attorney General of the State of Mexico, acknowledged that kidnappers that operate in the border shared by Mexico City and the State of Mexico could belong to La Familia Michoacana. Earlier this week the NGO Alto al Secuestro denounced that Los Zetas have tried to extort at least six businessmen in Mexico City.
"At certain points of the State of Mexico we have had criminal incidents with people who claim to be members of La Familia Michoacana, so we can not deny that either this organization or criminal groups that claim to belong to it operate in some places of the state," Gómez said.
He added that the governments of Mexico City and the State of Mexico are working on a joint strategy to stop them.
