The State Council of Civil Protection of the State of Guerrero ordered the suspension of classes throughout the region in light of the proximity of hurricane Marty.
The head of Civil Protection, Raúl Miliani Sabido, explained that the rains brought by the hurricane will continue for the next 48 hours, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
He also called the population to follow the recommendations of the authorities because there are some 100,000 people living in high-risk areas.
The main regions affected by the phenomenon are the Costa Grande, the Sierra and Acapulco. So far, the rain has caused four landslides, two in the mountain region in the road that leads to Tlapa and in the area of the Sierra in the municipality of Atoyac de Alvarez.
The navigation is closed in the 13 municipalities that make up the coastal strip, but the hurricane is closer to the coasts of Zihuatanejo, and in addition to causing high waves and heavy rains, have caused the rivers to rise.
No victims are reported so far.
