Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said that Mexico assumes the Agenda by 2030 for Sustainable Development as a State commitment, to positively transform the lives of millions of Mexicans and thus contribute to the universal development.
During his participation as the eighth speaker in the Plenary Session of the Summit for the adoption of the Agenda 2030 at the United Nations headquarters, Peña Nieto said that after agreements is reached between the different nations on the contents of the Agenda, the challenge will be to achieve its efficient implementation.
"The international community has reached an agreement on the content of the agenda 2030, the challenge now is to ensure its effective deployment. While this agenda is universal, its proper instrumentation requires a national strategy. Aware of this, Mexico assumes the agenda 2030 as a State commitment," he said.
Peña Nieto added that the 17 goals and 169 goals of sustainable development reflect the will and the commitment of nations to respond to the complex social and economic challenges and environmental of our times.
He also pointed out that there "there are no easy solutions, or short paths for solving the problems of humanity. All lasting and positive changes that the world need can only be achieved only with responsibility, perseverance and teamwork.
"That is precisely the essence of the Agenda 2030, shaping a global alliance, serious and long-term, and based on the values and aspirations that gave rise to the UN," expressed Peña Nieto.
The meeting was attended by the presidents and representatives of the United States, Paraguay, France, Costa Rica, Ghana, Lithuania, Solomon Islands, and Macedonia.
