IACHR extends mandate of expert group for Ayotzinapa

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) decided to extend for two months the mandate of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (IGIE) who assist the Mexican authorities in the investigations on the case of the 43 teachers in training who disappeared in Iguala.

Through a statement the agency indicated that this will allow them to prepare their final report on the case, based in good measure by the comments submitted by the State, civil society organizations and the victims, among other actors.

It also mentioned that the Mexican authorities and representatives will have until September 15 to comment on the possible renewal of the mandate of the IGIE.

The IGIE was appointed by the IACHR in the context of an agreement signed with the Mexican authorities and representatives of the 43 students who disappeared in that city of Guerrero by the end of last September.

The members of IGIE are Carlos Martín Beristain, Angela Buitrago, Francisco Cox Camino, Claudia Paz y Paz and Alejandro Valencia Villa.
