The U.S. Border Patrol reported that until June 2015 the arrests of undocumented unaccompanied minors in Arizona decreased 29% in regard to the same period last year.
During the current fiscal year 5,115 detentions were reported in the border with the Mexican state of Sonora, while in the same period of the previous year they totaled 7,237.
In a statement, the agency reported that its Tucson Sector saw the detentions of children and teenagers from January to June 2015 falling to 4,516 from 6,942 of the same period in 2014, meaning a decrease of 35%.
In contrast, the number of juveniles detained in the Yuma sector went from 295 to 599, an increase of 103%.
According to the report, the minors range from babies to 17-year-olds, coming from Mexico, Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
