The Mexican national soccer team defeated Costa Rica by a score of 1-0 thanks to a polemical penalty shot decided by Guatemalan referee Walter López.

The victory was sealed by Andrés Guardado on the 120+4 minute, through a penalty shot.

With this result, Mexico made it to the semifinals and will face Panama at Atlanta's Georgia Dome on July 22 while the U.S. team will face Jamaica.
