The municipalities of Colima, Comala, Coquimatlán, Cuauhtémoc and Villa de Álvarez, located in the state of Colima, were declared state of emergency by the Natural Disaster Fund (Fonden), to respond to the urgent needs of the population affected by the volcanic eruption.
In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior said that it is the first time in the history of the Fonden that a declaration of emergency by volcanic eruption is issued.
The agency explained that following the activity of the Colima volcano, on Saturday July 11, the staff of the Directorate General for Risk Management that controls the access to the resources of Fonden traveled to the state of Colima.
3,021 pantries, 96,696 liters of water, 12,087 blankets, 6,043 protective masks, 3,021 personal care kits arrived to the state of Colima benefiting about 12,087 people.
The government urges people living near the area of the volcano to follow the recommendations of the National Coordination of Civil Protection.
