Citizens clash with organizers of electoral boycott in Tixtla

Groups identifying themselves as citizens prevented ballot boxes from being burnt in Tixtla on the Chilpancingo-Tlapa highway, a few meters from the exit to Mártir de Cuilapan.

 

The organizers of the electoral boycott said that the "citizens" were in fact "shock troops" of the Ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD).

 

The citizens complained that neither the local government nor the federal government honored their word of guaranteeing security for the election, so they decided to take up arms to defend their right to vote.

 

The Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute reported that so far the organizations that are against the elections have stolen 14 voting booths.
