The King and Queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, began their state visit to Mexico, the first time that they have been in Latin-America since the proclamation of the monarch a year ago.
Upon landing at the Mexico City International Airport at 8:00 p.m., they were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio Meade; viceminister Carlos de Icaza; the Ambassador of Mexico in Spain, Roberta Lajous, and by the Ambassador of Spain in Mexico, Luis Fernández-Cid.
They were then transported to the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental, where they will be accommodated throughout their visit.
The monarchs are accompanied by José Manuel García Margallo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; Jaime Alfonsín, head of the Household of His Majesty; Jaime García Legaz, Secretary of State for Trade; and Víctor García de la Concha, director of the Instituto Cervantes.
The Spanish monarchs, who will be in Mexico until Wednesday, will participate in events and meetings in Mexico City, with federal officers and President Enrique Peña Nieto, as well as with representatives of the Spanish community. They will also visit the state of Zacatecas.
