A fire was reported Tuesday morning in the nursing home Hermoso Atardecer located in Mexicali, Baja California.

There were 45 people inside the building when the fire broke out at 4:00 am. 

The mayor of Mexicali, Jaime Rafael Díaz Ocha confirmed that 15 people died and at least five people were injured and taken to the General Hospital.

The area was cordoned off to start the identification of bodies.

The causes of the incident are unknown.
