Cuauhtémoc Blanco, former soccer player and candidate for mayor of Cuernavaca for the Social Democratic Party (PSD), accused the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) of offering him money to decline in their favor.
In a letter to President Enrique Peña Nieto, Blanco asked him to intervene so that the elections are conducted with honesty and there is a level playing field for everyone.

He described the offer as an insult and added that he would never sell himself to any party due to his "principles" and "values".
"It is sad to realize the great power that the rulers in turn have, how to move their intelligence apparatus and resources to try to buy their vote with food and money," Blanco wrote.
He added that if he becomes mayor of Cuernavaca, he will work hand in hand with the federal government to "achieve the peace that we desperately need in Morelos" and that he would ask the federal government for help to solve the debt inherited from politicians.
