Tropical storm Andrés strengthened this afternoon and became a category one hurricane, according to the National Water Commission.
The hurricane is the first of the season in the Pacific Ocean.
The storm is located approximately 146 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, and 485 miles south-southwest of Socorro Island, Colima.
At 4:00 p.m., central time, Andrés presented maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour, gusts up to 93 mph and was moving toward the northwest, at seven mph.
The outer clouds of the hurricane will increase the possibilities of heavy rainfall, with a precipitation of three to six inches, in Michoacán, and very strong (two to three inches) in Guerrero, Colima and Jalisco.
The SMN monitors its trajectory and asks the general population and marine traffic in the area to keep precautions and follow the recommendations issued by the National Civil Protection System.
