Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said that then Finance Minister Luis Videgaray resigned because the official suffered a big blow to his reputation due to Donald Trump's visit to Mexico.
In an interview with journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, the president said that Videgaray was involved in arranging the visit and "this blow led me to make the decision and accept his resignation."
During the interview, Peña Nieto also denied that the meeting with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been totally canceled.
When Trump visited Mexico, the president was widely criticized for not confronting him more directly on his remarks about Mexican migrants and the payment of the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border he wants to build.
