A federal judge issued a new arrest warrant against José Luis Abarca Velázquez, former mayor of Iguala, Guerrero, on charges of organized crime, illegal operations and illicit enrichment.
The federal judge in the State of Mexico said that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) provided sufficient evidence against Velázquez, who is also linked to the disappearance of the 43 teacher training students of Ayotzinapa.
According to statements obtained by the PGR, the former mayor received leaders and members of the Guerreros Unidos cartel at his office in the municipal presidency to plan their activities.
According to the same statements, Abarca had an active participation in the criminal organization and allowed its operation.
